Glenn Lance Maners Jr., 46, had great love and pride for his daughter

WILMINGTON — Glenn Lance Maners Jr., 46, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2017. Glenn was born Oct. 8, 1970. He was the beloved son of Sandy and Lance Maners of Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Matthews, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Maribelle and Ray Stutts; and paternal grandparents, Marie and M.A. (Doc) Maners, Uncle Barry Stutts and Aunt Mazie Maners.

Glenn attended schools in Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was honorably discharged in 1991. He graduated from Gaston College with a degree in emergency medicine and became a paramedic. After moving to Wilmington, he attended Cape Fear Community College to receive his CDL license and opened his trucking business.

Glenn was a unique person who had a laugh that was only his. He was intelligent, kind and had a big heart filled with love for others. He never met a stranger and could have everyone in his presence laughing. He grew up hunting, fishing and playing every other sport, but his favorite one was karate, and he excelled. He loved animals, bonsai trees and making jewelry.

Glenn faced struggles his entire life. At times, he felt they were insurmountable. Glenn’s one constant in his adult life that remained steadfast was his love and pride for his daughter.

Glenn is survived by his daughter, Madison Ashley Maners-Johnson of Charlotte; his parents, Sandy and Lance Maners of Wilmington; brother, Scott Maners of Wilmington; uncles, Garry Stutts of Greensboro and Marty Maners, Birmingham, Ala.; aunts and uncles, Mike and Marcy Maners, Ledford, N.C., and Cheree and Fred Culpepper, Charlotte, N.C.; great-aunts and great-uncle, Betty and Jim Neely, High Point, N.C., and Kat Mullis, Lake Norman, N.C.; and many cousins who he kept in his heart. He had a multitude of friends who loved him.

Memorial services will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 4, with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. and service at 3 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel, 3700 Forrest Lawn Drive, Matthews. An additional celebration of his life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Sea Spray Landing Clubhouse, Sea Spray Landing Road, Wilmington.
