Billy Charles Oldham, 76, dedicated his time to coaching youth baseball

OAK ISLAND — Billy Charles Oldham, 76, of Caswell Beach and formerly of Greensboro, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017.

Billy was born March 29, 1941, in Guilford County to the late Edgar Oldham and Algie Hardin Oakley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had played semi-pro baseball. Billy dedicated his off-time to coaching youth baseball for many years.

He retired from Olympic Products Inc., a division of Cone Mills Corporation, after 35 years. Billy was an avid golfer who enjoyed his membership and friends at Oak Island Country Club. He loved his New York Yankees and UNC Tar Heels. Most of all, he will be remembered as a fine Christian man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, ‘Paw-Paw’ and friend.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Craig Oldham, also formerly of Greensboro; two sons, Doug Oldham, and his wife, Gina, of Southport and David Oldham, and his wife, Janique, of Winston-Salem; four granddaughters, Charly McKenzie Oldham, Cambria Lillie Oldham and Cassidy Marie Oldham, all of Southport, and Ava Julian Vaughan-Oldham of Winston-Salem.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 11, at Bethel Baptist Church in Southport with the Rev. Jeff Saggus officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1628 N. Howe St., Southport, NC 28461.
