WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Captain Jeffrey Lynn Johnson, 61, left us on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, to be with his maker. Jeff was born in Japan on Jan. 5, 1956.
His mother, Charlotte Johnson, gave Jeff a glorious sense of humor that gained him many friends. His father; Special Forces Soldier Bobby Johnson, taught Jeff many life skills that served him well in his many endeavors. Jeff is survived by his son, Jacob; sister, Liz, and her husband, Jeff; niece, Elise, and her husband, Tad; and nephew, J.C.
Jeff had a large and loving heart. He lived life finding treasures in the sea and in the many people he touched along the way. Jeff founded Undersea Sales and Engineering in the late 1970’s on Wrightsville Beach, N.C.
His treasure-hunting skills included helping inner-city kids learn how to dive. Through the Ocean Science Institute, he helped troubled teens find confidence to stay in school.
In the late 1980’s, he created Maritime Motion Pictures. “Sleeping with the Enemy,” “Enemy of the State,” “The Replacements,” “Scarlet Letter,” and the documentary, “C.S.S. Hunley” were among the many projects Jeff and his team worked on.
Jeff had many other chapters in his life and these pages will be retold by his many friends for years to come. A celebration of his life will take place this spring as we return Jeff’s ashes to the sea. Details will be forthcoming.
Jeff would be honored if donations were made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
