Lawrence Humphrey Creech, 70, true gentleman with a great spirit

ST. JAMES — Lawrence Humphrey Creech, 70, of St. James, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Creech was born in High Point, North Carolina, son of the late Lemuel and Lorraine Humphrey Creech. He graduated with a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a lifelong Tarheel fan. He received his MBA from Syracuse University and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma.

Mr. Creech had a 37-year career with Armstrong World Industries and Interface Solutions retiring as general manager of Manufacturing. After retirement, he and his wife, Elizabeth, returned home to North Carolina, where he spent many days at the beach, golfing and enjoying the companionship of his friends. He was a true gentleman with a great spirit.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Creech; children, Charlotte Creech, and husband, Elliot Fagelman, and Richard Creech; sister, Sandra Creech Birdsong, and husband, John Birdsong; three grandchildren, Daniel, Thomas and Cara Fagelman; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Garrett Albertson officiating. Burial will follow in Cape Fear Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home in Southport.
