
HAMPSTEAD — Milford Chantwin Cox Sr., 96, of Hampstead, passed away on Sept. 27, 2016, at Stonebridge at Woodbury Wellness Center, Hampstead.
He was born on June 13, 1920, to John and Eleanor (Ashmore) Cox in Williamston, South Carolina. On Nov. 14, 1941, he married Swanee Lanier.
A proud WWII veteran, Milford was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. He served aboard several ships in the Pacific Theater, including his beloved USS Enterprise.
He was a lifetime member of Thomasville Masonic Lodge No. 214.
Milford is survived by his loving spouse of 75 years, Swanee; three daughters, Kimberly Cox Foster of Cary, North Carolina, Sandra Cox McVickers of Surf City, North Carolina, Patsy Cox Horton of Wilmington, North Carolina; two sons, Milford C. Cox Jr. of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Michael Ray Cox of Denver, Colorado; 11 devoted grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Andrew Cox Jr. and Charles Harold Cox.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.1, 2016, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel, 17730 Highway 17 North, Hampstead, NC. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. At Milford’s request, please wear casual attire to this service.
