
Geneva Watkins Wroton, 89, of Wilmington, died on Thursday, June 23, 2016, peacefully at her home around her family. She was born on Wednesday, December 15, 1926, in Rocky Point, Pender County. She was the daughter of James Obed Watkins and Cora Bell Lewis Watkins Griffin Byrd.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Woodrow Wilson Wroton.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwinn W. Rochelle, and her husband, David; sisters, Ethel Monroe (Gerald) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Maurice Vereen, and her husband, Robert, of Wilmington; brother, Roy Griffin, and his wife, Judy, of Fuquay-Varina; and grandchildren, Heather Schlarb, and her husband, Jonathan, Jonathan Rochelle, and his wife, Cynthia, and Daisy Rochelle.
Geneva was a loving and caring sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and coworker. She was employed briefly at Greens (now Walgreens) and worked as a buyer at Foy & Roe Company for 31 years and as an insurance administrator at Coastal Chiropractor Center for 35 years, all in Wilmington.
She was a faithful and committed member at Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the Adult Choir and was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 27, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at 1 p.m. prior to services. Pallbearers will be Phil VanCampen, Jonathan Paul, Baxter Watkins and Donald Larkins.
