Robert Thomas ‘Bob’ Moore, 82, tutored and mentored students at South Brunswick Middle School

Mr. Robert Thomas ‘Bob’ Moore, 82, of St. James, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his home. Mr. Moore was born May 8, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of the late Francis and Jane Moore.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Before moving to St. James, Bob was a trustee in Indian Head Park, Ill., for 13 years. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Bob spent his working career designing material handling systems. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the St. James Fire Department, and the Southport/Oak Island Kiwanis Club, where he helped tutor and mentor students at South Brunswick Middle School. Bob was an avid Notre Dame football fan who attended many games.

Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Gerard Moore and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Hanrahan.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Pat Moore; son, Robert Moore, and his wife, Mary Lou, of Charlotte; and three grandchildren, Brendan, Colin and Meghan.

A funeral Mass will be held at noon Friday, May 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Trent Watts officiating. A reception will follow at the Members Club, St. James.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Fire Department, 3628 St. James Drive S.E., Southport, NC 28461; or Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.
