Jean Brown Carraway, 90, taught middle school for 30 years and loved to travel

Jean Brown Carraway, 90, of Wilmington, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 16, 2016. She was born in Wilmington on February 28, 1926, to the late Avery Burr Brown and Janie Ruth Scott Brown.

She was a member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church for 50 years and Burgaw Presbyterian Church for 40 years. She sang in the choir and was active in the Women’s Church Circle. She was also an active member of the Gideon’s, Retired Teachers and Essential Tremors associations. Her favorite charity was Samaritan’s Purse. She taught middle school for 30 years and loved to travel. She will be missed by all, including her favorite cat, Rusty.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, John Carraway; daughter, Leigh Carraway; and sister, Sumaleigh Brown.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Donna Jean Carraway and Sharon Carraway Clapp, and her husband, Tim; and grandchildren, Mark Clapp and Melissa Clapp.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3902 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28403. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the church with the Rev. Aaron Doll officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Garden, 306 Bradley Drive Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church, Samaritan’s Purse or Gideons International.
