Walter Erich Deich, 80, of Wilmington passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015.
He is survived by his two loving daughters, Allison Ferguson and husband CJ and Stephanie Bennett and husband Joda; and his sister, Ursula Perrelli.
Walter was born in Gladbeck Westfallen, Germany to Erich and Erna Deich on Nov. 10, 1935. Along with his family he came to the U.S. when he was 14. Walt served proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He was always passionate about his long career in the pulp and paper industry. He was retired from International Paper.
His two favorite pastimes were being on his boat fishing and entertaining for family and friends. He was a wonderful cook. All those that were around him will remember him as quite the character.
The family would like to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Martha’s Adult Care for their kindness, care, and support.
A family memorial will be held at a later date.
