Joseph Leonard Tuminaro, 92, WWII veteran

obit flagJoseph Leonard Tuminaro, 92, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 12,2015 at the Lower cape Fear Hospice House in Wilmington after a long Illness.

Born in Lodi, New Jersey, on Dec. 27, 1923, he was the son of the late Salvadore Tuminaro.

At 17 years old, he joined the United States Marine Corps during World War II as a refrigeration operator foreman.  He retired after as a Staff Sgt. after over 20 years. Mr.Tominaro received the China Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal .

For the last 20 years until he got ill, he worked for Wilmington Parks and Recreation.

He is survived by his son Darrell Tuminaro of Wilmington.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
