Clifford Allen Foltz, 76, retired with honor from US Air Force

Clifford Allen Foltz, Sr., 76 of Southport, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 from pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born April 23, 1939, in Alma, Page County, Virginia, the son of the late Jacob Carl Foltz Sr. and Essie Marium Strole Foltz.

Cliff graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1957 and soon after joined the U.S. Air Force.  He was assigned to the 688th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron (Air Defense Command) at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas.  He was reassigned to the 931st Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron Air Defense Wing at Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. Cliff received the Good Conduct, National Defense Services and Airman’s medals.

His career started in 1964 as a service technician and was elevated to operations manager of the Product Service Division of Sears, Roebuck & Company in Gaithersburg, Maryland until his retirement in 1994, when he moved to Southport.

Also known by the family as Allen, he was very supportive of his children in little league baseball, taking them fishing, hunting and camping.  Since retiring, he and his wife Georgia have traveled and also devoted hours in the compilation of the Fuls/Fults/Fultz/Folts/Foltz of Newport, Virgina and the Christian Strole family histories. The research has been donated to St. Paul Lutheran Church archives and family members.

He married Bobbie Carolyn Meacham in 1959. She passed away in 1967 and is survived by their children, Danette Desiree’ (Jay) Baker of Pittsboro and Clifford Allen Foltz, Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona.

He married Georgia Frances Buzzell on Jan. 19, 1968 in Wheaton, Maryland. Surviving are their sons John Eric and James David “JD” Foltz of Frederick, Maryland; and the loves of his life, grandsons (John’s) Jacob Perry, Zackary James and Colby Alan Foltz; brother Jacob Carl “JC” (Betty Mae) Foltz of Shenandoah, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Marion Buzzell of Southern Pines and Ellie Disney of Pinehurst; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters June, Noble, Charlotte Veator, Caroline Jones and Doris Morecock.

No local services or visitations are planned.  Burial will be held at a later date at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Shenandoah, Virginia.
