Elizabeth Howey Snow, 83, volunteered help for those suffering from macular degeneration

Elizabeth Howey Snow, known as “Betty” to her friends and family, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, with her son David and daughter-in-law Daphne at her side at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She was 83.

Betty was born on March 3, 1932, in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Richard and Irene Ledvak Howey. She and her husband Robert raised their family in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Snow and her son, Matthew Snow.

She is survived by her children, Robert, Richard and David Snow; siblings, Edward Howey, Richard Howey, Irene Woods and Jeannette Murphy; grandchildren, Andrew, Alison, Madeline Catherine, Christopher, Travis, Libby, Cassie and Connor; and great-grandchildren, Quentin and Niall.

While in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Betty was a longtime volunteer of the Vision Center, lending help to individuals like herself who suffered from macular degeneration. She was active in her church community, St. Pius in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. She loved books, traveling with her lifelong girlfriends, shopping, the beach and her family. Betty moved to Wilmington in December of 2014. She will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road. Funeral services will be held in Ohio.
