René Rey Fundora, 59, passed away Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at his home in Wilmington.
René was born August 25, 1956 in Morón, Cuba and moved to Wilmington in 1970 at the young age of 13.
René graduated from Hoggard High School in 1976. After graduation, he began working at General Electric until his retirement in 2005, which allowed him the opportunity to travel and spend time with his family.
He is survived by his mother Renée Fundora; three daughters, Leah and Matt Holder, Leanna and Matt Mangum, and Lindsey Fundora; two grandchildren, Jackson and Emma Holder; sister Becky Jones; nephew Gerald “GJ” Jones; and great-nephew Gerald Jones. René was preceded in death by his father, René Ramón Fundora.
René “Macho” loved spending time with his family, hanging at the beach and listening to music at the Rusty Nail.
René was loved by his family and friends and his spirit will truly be missed.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the south end of Wrightsville Beach gazebo.
