Othell Hyatt, 80, of Wilmington passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
Mr. Hyatt was born in Latta, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Hubert Cox and Edith Powers Cox. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Tucker Hyatt, who passed on March 20, 2009, a grandson, Michael Helgren, and a brother, Shuford Cox.
Mr. Hyatt was a lifetime member of Apostolic Tabernacle Church, where he and his wife were very active. He retired from Babcock & Wilcock Construction.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Porter and husband Arnold of Rocky Point; one sister, Marjorie Gurganious and husband Cecil of Wilmington and one grandson, Wesley Porter of Rocky Point and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Judy Strickland and the Rev. David Porter officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m.
