NEW HANOVER COUNTY—- New Hanover County is inviting community members who want a role in local governance to apply for openings on county boards and committees.
Thursday morning, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners released 15 different boards and committees that are looking for members. Appointments to all boards and committees are made directly by the Board of Commissioners, with some positions requiring specific qualifications.
Applications can be found here, at the Board of Commissioners office situated in the New Hanover County Government Center at 230 Government Center Drive, or by calling (910)-798-7149.
Applications must be submitted by July 5th to be considered at the upcoming Board of Commissioners meeting on July 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
Here is the list of hiring boards and committees:
- Airlie Gardens Foundation Board of Directors is seeking applicants for a Corbett family representative. Applicants must be a member of the Corbett family or its descendents. Board members serve three year terms.
- The New Hanover County Adult Home Care Community Advisory Committee is seeking applicants for committee members. All applicants must complete orientation training before they can be appointed to the Community Advisory Committee (CAC). When someone applies, an Ombudsman from the Cape Fear Council of Governments will guide them through this training process. Committee members serve one year terms initially, and three year terms thereafter.
- The New Hanover County Board of Mechanical Examiners is seeking applicants for a class II journeyman mechanic. Applicants must have five years of experience in the field. Board members serve two year terms.
- The New Hanover County Commission on African American History, Heritage, and Culture is seeking applicants for two members. One in the faith community category and another in the business community category. Members serve staggered terms initially and three year terms thereafter.
- The New Hanover County Cooperative Extension Advisory Council is seeking applicants for three members. Members serve staggered terms determined by the Board of Commissioners.
- The New Hanover County Health and Human Services Board is seeking applicants for a licensed psychiatrist. Board members serve staggered terms initially, and four year terms thereafter.
- The New Hanover County Inspections Department Advisory Council is seeking applicants for a commercial builder, engineer, mechanical contractor, and plumbing contractor. Members serve three year terms.
- The New Hanover County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council is seeking applicants for a member of the business community and a school student under the age of 21. Members serve two year terms.
- The New Hanover County Non-County Agency Funding Committee is seeking applicants for a public safety/ judicial member and a pre-k through 12 grade educational member. Members serve three year terms.
- The New Hanover County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee is seeking applicants for committee members. All applicants must complete orientation training before they can be appointed to the Community Advisory Committee (CAC). When someone applies, an Ombudsman from the Cape Fear Council of Governments will guide them through this training process. Committee members serve one year terms initially, and three year terms thereafter.
- The New Hanover County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is seeking applicants for two board members. Members serve three year terms.
- The New Hanover County Planning Board is seeking applicants for three planning board members. Members are compensated $20 per meeting and serve three year terms.
- The New Hanover County Tourism and Development Authority is seeking an applicant that owns or manages 100 or more vacation rental properties. Members serve three year terms.
- The Parks Conservancy of New Hanover County, Inc. Board of Directors is seeking applicants for five board members. Members serve three year terms.
- Trillium Health Resources’ Southern Regional Advisory Board is seeking applicants for board members. Commissioners on the board serve for the duration of their tenure as commissioners. Other members serve three year terms.
