PENDER COUNTY — Work on a new Pender County bridge will start this spring, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The bridge that crosses N.C. 210 over Long Creek is a century-old and in need of replacement, as it no longer meets current design standards.
NCDOT has awarded a $5 million contract to Smith-Rowe LLC of Mount Airy. This spring it will start construction on the new 205-foot bridge; work is supposed to be complete by spring 2026.
While construction is underway, traffic will continue to cross the existing bridge as the new one is built alongside it. Though intermittent lane closures and frequent large trucks entering the highway should be expected.
