CAROLINA BEACH — A Carolina Beach man pleaded guilty to sexual battery charges in New Hanover Superior Criminal Court on Monday.
Paul Scott Jackson was set to begin a jury trial Monday morning before admitting to the sexual assault of a 25-year-old woman at a local beach bar. Jackson approached her and tried to introduce himself with a handshake, but she rejected him. He then shoved his hand into the front of her pants.
Jackson reportedly denied the accusation and told officers: “Women will say anything to get a reaction, I guess they got their reaction.”
Officers verified the assault through a review of the bar’s video footage.
“Jackson was angry she didn’t want to shake his hand and tried to show the victim that he was in control of her,” assistant district attorney Connie Jordan said in a press release.
Superior Court Judge Quinn McGee sentenced Jackson to 75 days in jail and 36 months supervised probation. Jackson is now a registered sex offender.
