BRUNSWICK COUNTY — One man in the tri-county region is celebrating after winning big from a scratch-off ticket obtained in Shallotte.

Grady Watkins Jr. of Ocean Isle Beach purchased $20 Platinum scratch-off from the N.C. Education Lottery at a Food Lion on South Willis Drive in the Brunswick County beach town.

After required state and federal tax withholdings, Watkins took home $71,256.

The Platinum tickets were rolled out in August and offer four $2 million prizes and eight $100,000 prizes. Two $2 million prizes and three $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed, according to the state lottery.

The lottery raises roughly $2.5 million daily for education.
