WILMINGTON — Effective Wednesday, Nov. 23, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority issued a boil water advisory for the Silver Lake community in the southern part of the county.

There is a water main leak in the area affecting roughly 100 CFPUA customers; crews are trying to restore water service as quickly as possible.

Those affected live in the 826 to 835 stretch of Lorraine Drive, all of Musevale Drive, all of Manteo Court, all of Arrow Court, all of Bellwood Court, and all of Arnold Road.

CFPUA has noted there could be periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system. This may increase potential for back siphonage, in effect causing bacteria to enter the water system.

Customers using tap water should boil it for one minute and allow to cool before consuming. Water does not need to be boiled for showering.

CFPUA will have a lab test the water to ensure it’s safe to drink before lifting the advisory.
