9,000 gallons of sewage discharged in Shallotte

SHALLOTTE — A Brunswick County town had 9,000 gallons of untreated wastewater discharged on Wednesday for 30 minutes.

The Town of Shallotte said the leak took place at a force main located at 659 North Mulberry Road NW.

“The portion of untreated wastewater that was not recovered with pump trucks entered into Mulberry Creek in the Lumber River Basin,” a release noted.

Crews shut down the broken line to prevent any further release.

The Division of Emergency Management was notified and is reviewing the matter.
