SBI investigates shooting at Carolina Beach motel

CAROLINA BEACH — An officer-involved shooting took place at a Carolina Beach motel right after midnight July 2.

According to the Carolina Beach Police Department, two on-duty officers were involved in the incident at the Dolphin Lane Motel (318 N Carolina Beach Ave.). No injuries were sustained by officers involved, though the suspect was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries

The New Hanover County District Attorney’s Office was notified immediately after the shooting, according to a release from CBPD. A request was made for the State Bureau of Investigation to step in.

The two police department members involved in the incident are now on administrative leave, which is standard protocol with officer-involved shootings. 

The investigation is ongoing.
