OAK ISLAND — Three individuals were killed Tuesday night as a result of a multi-car accident in Oak Island. The Oak Island Fire and Police were dispatched at 8:47 p.m. to an area south of Long Beach Road and Vanessa Drive to reports of a collision.

The deceased victims involved include Sharron Carr, 48, from Nellysford, Virginia, Dimitrios Ganas, 66 and Evelyn Ganas, 82, both of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. According to Oak Island Police, investigations show Carr was likely living with local family members and the Ganases were visiting friends in Oak Island.

The family of all victims have been notified.

According to the news release, crash reconstruction and eyewitness accounts indicate Carr was headed northbound in a Nissan SUV. She crossed the center line just after exiting the G.V. As a result of the accident, the bridge was temporarily closed until 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, and all traffic was rerouted through Swains Cut Bridge at Middleton Avenue.

Fire departments, medical teams and law enforcement from Southport, St. James, Brunswick County and the Highway Patrol assisted on the scene and with the investigation.
