PENDER COUNTY – A lucky $10 Big Bucks Bingo ticket was purchased in a Pender County store Saturday, Mar. 19, and resulted in a $134,857 jackpot win.

The ticket was bought at the Hampstead Country Store on U.S. 17 South, according to the N.C. Education Lottery. The lucky buyer: Corinne Leontieff of Hampstead. It was first time Leontieff purchased Fast Play.

“I was in shock of course,” Leontieff said in a press release. “Still kind of in shock.”

Fast Play winning odds are 1 in 240,000.

The 35-year-old claimed her prize on Mar. 24. She walked away with $95,765 after required state and federal tax withholdings. Leontieff said the money will go toward paying bills, investing and saving for her son’s future.

Sales from lottery tickets — about $900 million a year — go back to the N.C. education system.
