Man arrested in connection to parking-lot shooting on Oleander Drive

WILMINGTON — According to the Wilmington Police Department, a man has been arrested in connection to Thursday night’s shooting in the parking lot of a shopping center in the 3500 block of Oleander Drive.

Robert Taylor, 51, has been charged with attempted first degree murder, possession of firearm by a felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is at New Hanover County Detention Center, held under a $520,000 secured bond.

The shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Dec. 16, and was “personal in nature,” according to the police, as the victim and suspect are acquaintances. When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim in the Hanover Center parking lot, in front of Harris Teeter on Oleander Drive.

“Our officers worked tirelessly along with our STING center and other law enforcement partners to quickly identify the suspect and take him into custody,” Chief Donny Williams said in the WPD’s press release.

The 35-year-old male victim was rushed to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and remains in stable condition.

Police said the incident appears to be an isolated event and not a threat to the public-at-large.
