Two dead after Oak Island drowning

OAK ISLAND –– Oak Island Police Department officers were dispatched to the beach strand in front of Trott Street Wednesday at approximately 1:45 p.m.

Officers found a 50-year-old male who had been pulled from the water, was unconscious and in cardiac arrest.

Another 28-year-old male was unaccounted for. Responders attempted to resuscitate the man onshore while efforts began to look for the other.

Efforts to resuscitate the man were not successful. By 4 p.m., the body of the 28-year-old male was recovered.

The drowning victims were father and son who were on the island on a family visit.
