WILMINGTON – Traffic on Market Street will shift twice this week and next, marking the completion and beginning of two N.C. Department of Transportation projects.
On Sunday at approximately 7 p.m., the southbound lane between Amaryllis Drive and just south of Alexander Road will return to its original pattern. Contractors are almost finish on work to install a 96-inch stormwater pipe.
Southern access to Alexander Drive will also open.
A second traffic shift will start Sunday, March 14, around 7 p.m. near Marsh Oaks Drive. For at least 45 days, the four lanes of traffic will be redirected west, and there will be no center turn lane. Crews will work in the area to position a 54-inch stormwater pipe.
“Drivers should be alert in the area while crews make each shift,” according to an NCDOT statement.
Both construction sites are part of a larger plan on Market Street to reduce congestion and improve safety, according to NCDOT. All work is expected to complete by early 2023.
