Blanchard’s family regularly visited Topsail Beach his entire life before he became a resident in 2004. He served on multiple Topsail Beach boards and committees over the past decade, including as a commissioner and mayor since the September passing of his predecessor, former mayor Steve Smith. Blanchard worked on numerous initiatives with a particular focus on bringing public sewer service to the town.
“In addition to being a true friend and a dedicated public servant to Topsail Beach,” the town wrote in a statement, “He was also a loving husband, father and grandfather who was adored by his family. Mayor Blanchard leaves a huge void in the Town of Topsail Beach. His leadership, wisdom, and compassion will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
