Known as “Mayfaire West,” the BrodyCo development will consist of multifamily residences and townhomes, roughly 2.5 miles from Wrightsville Beach. It will be sandwiched among the surrounding Eastwood Village, Parkside and Windemere communities, bringing 479 residences, with 256 being apartments and 223 being carriage houses and townhomes. The developer is requesting a rezoning to move the project forward.

The mixed-use community will have nine acres of green space, including mature trees. There also will be pedestrian and bike pathways, including an extension to the Cross City Trail going through Mayfaire and 5.5 miles of new sidewalks.

Also planned are traffic-calming measures. This will include a “grid layout inspired by Traditional Neighborhood Design and traffic-calming measures like roundabouts, on-street parking, medians, and narrower streets,” according to the development’s website.

In a press release Monday, the developer boasted the project as complementary to Mayfaire Town Center, focused on live, work, play, shop, and dining. It’s in the vicinity of other Mayfaire living developments BrodyCo has co-developed, including Village at Mayfaire and The Reserve Apartments at Mayfaire. The project will cater to young professionals and growing families.

“Mayfaire West is a transformational development that cultivates a welcoming sense of place for residents and visitors of all ages,” Hyman Brody, president and CEO of BrodyCo, said the release. “This project is a unique opportunity to support Wilmington’s rapidly growing population, and we’re committed to offering a dynamic, desirable, and inclusive living experience.”

BrodyCo, which co-developed and planned Mayfaire Town Center, is also behind Crystal Coast Plaza in Morehead City and Greenville Square, 11 Galleria, Stanton Square and La Promenade in Greenville, N.C., among others statewide. The company focuses on projects in eastern North Carolina, particularly mixed-use, walkable environments.

There will be a May 6 community meeting about the complex, hosted at Northeast Regional Library in the Paynter Room, 1241 Military Cutoff Road, at 5 p.m.

“We’re committed to working collaboratively with neighbors and the city of Wilmington through this process,” Brody told Port City Daily.

[Ed. note: This piece was updated after press to reflect the number of residences coming from the project.]
