The Agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, Feb. 3

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Resolution to participate in the C-PACE program
  • Workforce Housing Advisory Committee update

The Wilmington City Council will meet for an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here.

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes renewal of medical insurance with the North Carolina Health Insurance Pool and consideration of appointing planning board representatives from the Shallotte ETJ and Sunset Beach ETJ.

Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at 805 S. Walker St. in Burgaw. The agenda includes a presentation on land use regulation and status updates for the Law Enforcement Center and Health and Human Services Facility projects.

Topsail Beach Town Council has a two-day budget retreat this week, with day one kicking off at 9 a.m. The agenda includes reviewing state allocated funds, personnel and future needs and departmental needs. The meeting takes place at the Topsail Board Room.

Kure Beach Town Council has a budget retreat at 9 a.m. The agenda includes going over the five-year capital plan, future projections and departmental needs. Audio is uploaded here after the meeting.

City of Southport Board of Alderman is meeting at 9 a.m. at 223 E. Bay St. Meetings are streamed here and the agenda includes the streetlight map revision and an ordinance for street openings. 

The Pender County Board of Education Committee of the Whole will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117 S. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 3400 and 3400-R first reading
  • Staff Professional Dress and Student Dress Code Update

Tuesday, Feb. 4

Brunswick Board of Education meets at 6 p.m. at the The Center of Applied Sciences and Technology (The COAST), 1109 Old Ocean Hwy. Meetings are streamed here and the agenda includes the board approving a letter of intent to purchase land from Seven States Timberland, LLC.

Surf City Town Council meets at 4:30 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W Florence Way. The meeting can be streamed here and the agenda includes approval of updating the property management policy and a public hearing on the annexation of of three parcels.

Pender County Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. at the Hampstead Annex, 15060 US Hwy 17. An agenda was not posted by press.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will meet at 10 a.m. at 235 Government Center Dr. in the Jordan Conference Room. An agenda was not posted by press.

  • Presentation on Shew Legacy Park from Dr. Roger Shew
  • Resolution Declaring Intent to Participate in the Commercial Property Assessed Capital Expenditure Program

The Wilmington Housing Authority will meet at 4 p.m. at Rankin Terrace, 415 N. 12th St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Ad-hoc committees

The Belville Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. to discuss fiscal year 2025-2026 budget projections and discuss a major subdivision fence. The board meets at 63 River Rd.

Wednesday, Feb. 5

North Topsail Board of Alderman meets at 11 a.m. at town hall, 2008 Loggerhead Ct. The agenda includes:

  • Consider vacancies and applications Beach, Inlet, Sound Advisory Committee and Planning Board
  • Decide on 2024 legislative goals

The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 102 and 104 Mears St.: Property containing 141acres +/- from R-3, Medium-high-density mixed residential district to UMX, Urban Mixed-Use District.
  • 5601 Oleander Drive: Property containing 6.12 acres +/- from CB, Commercial Business to RB (CD), Regional Business(CD) for proposed commercial recreation facility.

Southport Historic Preservation Commission meets at 4 p.m. at the Fire Department Substation, 111 E. Nash St. An agenda was not posted by press.

Thursday, Feb. 6

Burgaw Tourism Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The UNCW Board of Trustees will hold committee meetings beginning at 11 a.m. in UNCW’s Burney Center, 601 S. College Road. 

Friday, Feb. 7

The UNCW Board of Trustees will meet at 9:30 a.m. in UNCW’s Burney Center, 601 S. College Road.
