PENDER COUNTY — A groundbreaking ceremony is planned in Burgaw that will become the site to Pender County’s new health and human services building.

A 75,000-square-foot building is being constructed at 298 Progress Drive and county commissioners are hosting its official construction kickoff on Monday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. It’s open to the public.

The building will serve as the future home for Pender County Health Department and Social Services, designed to meet the county’s two-decade projected growth.

“The new building will allow us to continue providing essential services and adapt as community needs evolve,” Carolyn Moser, director of the Pender County Health Department, said in a release.

According to the county, the facility will facilitate enhancing service delivery, broadening access to public health and social services, and providing a welcoming environment. There will be spacious visitation areas for social services and room to grow with increased staffing needs and services demand
