NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Annually, the county allocates a portion of funds in its budget to go to nonprofits and community agencies for economic development initiatives.

The online application portal for the 2025-2026 fiscal year for non-county agencies and economic development agencies is open, with a deadline for packets to be submitted by Jan. 6.

The funding is allocated to programs that align with the county’s strategic priorities and serves residents. The agencies that apply must also show how they contribute to economic development, retain business in New Hanover and help improve the tax base, create jobs and community wealth.

The Non-County Agency Funding Committee reviews all applications before making recommendations to the board of commissioners. Applications are reviewed by the county manager and recommendations are included in the budget for commissioners’ approval.
