NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Retired New Hanover County Schools administrator Robin Hamilton is returning to New Hanover County Schools to serve as chief academic officer.

Hamilton is taking over for Patrice Faison, who announced last month she had accepted a role with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

Hamilton has 35 years of experience in public education including teaching experiences at the elementary and middle school levels. Her administrative experience includes 22 years as a principal in Title I and Non-Title I schools, and four years as director and assistant superintendent of human resources. She most recently served as the principal of Masonboro Elementary School and as an adjunct professor and clinical coach at Gardner-Webb University.

“I am so excited to return to my NHCS family in this new role,” Hamilton said. “I look forward to helping support learning environments where teachers can continue to make the students and their learning a top priority.”

Hamilton was New Hanover County Schools 2014-2015 Principal of the Year, and Southeastern North Carolina’s 2015 Regional Principal of the Year.

She has served on numerous committees and boards at the local and state levels, including past-president of the New Hanover County PAPA association, the Department of Public Instruction Read to Achieve Committee, the State Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, the East Carolina University College of Education Professional Advisory Board, and the Gardner-Webb University Graduate School of Education Clinical Advisory Board.

Hamilton holds an educational doctorate in school leadership from East Carolina University and was the 2014 recipient of the The Glatthorn Outstanding Dissertation Award for her dissertation, “A Comparative Case Study of Kindergarten Transition Practices and The Impact on Children’s Kindergarten Readiness.” She is nationally certified as a principal mentor.
