OAK ISLAND — A water play area in a neighboring Brunswick County beach town will not reopen until next week.

The Oak Island Splashpad is closed due to contaminants entering the filtration system and equipment because of Tropical Storm Debby bringing flooding, rainfall and high winds to the area this week.

According to the town, recreation department and public works staff need to execute repairs and refill the system; this will require additional flushing throughout the weekend. The splashpad should reopen Monday, Aug. 12.
