PENDER COUNTY — A local school district has been recognized by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Pender County schools received the Purple Star Award Designation, which applauds the district’s commitment to supporting students from military families in the community.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction launched the honor in acknowledgment of the state’s “robust military presence and its dedication to serving military families.” Recipient schools showcase model practices to support students of these families.
Director of Student Services Leanne Radabaugh and Assistant Superintendent Kevin Taylor accepted the award. The district touted their leadership as instrumental to create a supportive environment for military-affiliated students.
“This recognition is a testament to our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional support to our military families and ensuring that they feel valued and welcomed within our school community,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Breedlove said in a release, adding the district remains committed to inclusive outreach for those who need it.
