The Agenda: In local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, April 22

Oak Island Planning Board meets at 9 a.m. in council chambers. The agenda includes text amendments to the UDO regarding airport signs and supplemental changes. The meeting can be livestreamed here.

Tuesday, April 23

Pender County Commissioners and Planning Board will hold a joint meeting at 4 p.m. at Pender County Public Assembly Room. 805 S. Walker Street. The agenda includes a consultation introduction of the comprehensive land use plan and an overview of the traffic impact analysis and driveway access permit processes. Carolina Beach Town Council will hold a workshop at 9 a.m. at Council Chambers, 1121 North Lake Park Boulevard. The agenda includes an update on abandoned, derelict vessels and department budget presentations. It can be livestreamed here.

The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet for committee meetings and a budget work session starting at 9 a.m in the BCS administrative offices, 35 Referendum Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Presentation of Strategic Plan
  • CCTV- A3 Communications Contract
  • K-8 math and middle school health curricula adoption 

The New Hanover County Schools Policy Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 2300: Board Meetings 
  • Policy 4351: Short-term Suspension

The New Hanover County Board of Adjustment will meet at 5:30 p.m. in suite 110 of the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet at 5 p.m. in the Longleaf Room, 1241 A Military Cutoff Rd. to review absentee ballot applications, hash out the early voting plan for the 2024 November election, and discuss election-related matters. The Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 4 p.m. at Board of Elections Office, 75 Stamp Act Drive NE, Building H, Bolivia. An agenda was not posted by press; the meeting can be livestreamed here.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will have a budget workshop at  2 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay Street. The meeting will be followed by a community input meeting at 4:30 p.m. Meetings are livestreamed here. 

The Oak Island Town Council will meet at 9 a.m. in council chambers. The agenda includes a review of the proposed FY 2024-2025 budget and selecting a firm for the land use plan update. The meeting can be livestreamed here.

Leland Planning Board meets at 6 p.m. in town hall. The agenda includes a text amendment to modify a section of the UDO regarding Thoroughfares, Streets and Connections, as well as recommendation to adopt the framework for a Green Network Master Plan. The agenda and video can be accessed here.

Thursday, April 25

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority long-range planning committee will meet at 3 p.m. at 230 Government Center Drive. The agenda is here and will cover the 2025 fiscal year and 10-year capital improvements plan recommendation, as well as the Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade and expansion site layout.

The Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will meet at 12:30 p.m. at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Belville Board of Commissioners was rescheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m., in town hall council chambers. An agenda was not posted by press.

Friday, April 26

The Bald Head Island Village Council will hold a budget workshop at 10 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the Department of Public Safety Building, 273 Edward Teach Extension. The meeting will be livestreamed here.
