Early morning shooting leaves 2 people in critical condition

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department was called to the 300 block of Calhoun Drive early Wednesday morning.

Around 5 a.m. officers responded to a call of two people shot. The victims, who have yet been identified publicly, were transported from the residence to Novant NHRMC and are in critical condition.

Police believe the incident transpired due to a drug transaction.

“Through evidence and information gathered thus far,” a WPD release noted, “we know this incident occurred due to illegal activity and behavior, specifically involving the sale and use of illegal drugs. Detectives are working diligently to put the facts together.”

Anyone with information to call the Wilmington Police Department at 910-343-3609 or submit an anonymous top via the Tip 411 app.
