NEW HANOVER COUNTY — For the seventh year, a local nonprofit is launching a donation drive for Thanksgiving meals.
NourishNC, nonprofit that provides healthy food to hungry children, is kicking off its Thanksgiving Dinner Donation drive. The nonprofit will be offering 1,800 children enrolled in its backpack program a “take-and-bake” Thanksgiving dinner for their families to prepare and enjoy.
Each meal will include a turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, soup, cornbread mix, apple sauce, and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. All items come packed in in a foil pan, with recipes.
“We want every child in this community to experience the joy of having a Thanksgiving dinner with their family, in the comfort of their home,” NourishNC executive director Steve McCrossan said in a press release.
Last year, NourishNC distributed more than 600 Thanksgiving meals to food-insecure families.
The nonprofit is seeking public support — $35 donations — to exceed that number this year. Donations can be made here.
