Teen shot dead in Meares Street incident

Officers were called to the 500 block of Meares Street around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 31. Upon entering the home, they found a 17-year-old dead on the scene by a fatal gunshot wound.

WILMINGTON — A lethal incident on Thursday has left one female teen deceased and another charged with possession of a firearm by a minor.

Officers were called to the 500 block of Meares Street around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 31. Upon entering the home, they found a 17-year-old victim dead on the scene by a fatal gunshot wound.

Wilmington Police Department charged a 16-year-old male with minor firearm possession and said investigators are working with the District Attorney’s office to determine future charges.

The investigation is ongoing; no further information can be released.
