The Agenda: In local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Tuesday, July 4

Local government offices closed for Independence Day.

Wednesday, July 5

The Town of Burgaw Beautification Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St.

The Surf City Tourism, Promotion and Special Events Subcommittee will meet at 1:20 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.

The Surf City Parks, Recreation and Tourism Committee will meet at 3 p.m.

at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.

Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. The twi items on the agenda include:

  • Award a $100,000 contract to WithersRavenl to update the town’s land use code
  • Award a $305,500 engineering contract to Highfill Infrastructure Engineering for the replacement of a water line along N.  SHore Drive from Roland Ave to Dolphin Street

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority’s executive committee meeting will take place at 10 a.m. in the IT Conference Room at 235 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Brunswick County Regional Water and Sewer H2GO will meet at 10 a.m. at Belville Town Hall, 63 River Road. The agenda addresses:

  • Discussion about 2023-2024 budget
  • Organizational charts and new hires
  • Discussion on capital improvement projects

Thursday, July 6

The Town of Burgaw Tourism Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St.

The Surf City Promotions, Special Events and Tourism Advisory Committee will meet at 3 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.

The North Topsail Beach Board of Aldermen will meet at 11 a.m. at town hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The meeting can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • A presentation on the Onslow United Transit System
  • Consideration of repealing the current golf cart ordinance
  • Proposal to hire four seasonal, temporary, part-time firefighters in the Fire Department and associated budget amendment

The New Hanover County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the NHC Historic Courthouse, 24 Third St. N. The meeting can be livestreamed on NHCTV and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:

  • A rezoning request for 23 acres zoned light industrial and 49.38 acres zoned light industrial and residential to residential multi-family, low density for a 521 residential units at 5210 Holly Shelter Road and 5735 Blue Clay Road
  • Rezoning request for 7.37 acres from R-15 to R-5 for 56 attached single-family units on Carolina Beach Road
  • Rezoning request for 0.92 acres from R-15 to R-5 for 7 single-family lots on Shelley Drive

Friday, July 7

City of Southport Board of Aldermen meet for an agenda review and workshop at at 9 a.m. at Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 W. Moore St. An agenda was not posted by press.
