LELAND –– Richard Holloman, the founder of the Leland House of Pickleball, has announced his bid for Leland Town Council.
The businessman was a recent member of the Leland Tourism and Development Committee and is already familiar with municipal functions. A registered Republican, Holloman is a first-timer as he heads into the November nonpartisan municipal election.
In 2018, Holloman opened The HOP next to Brunswick Forest bordering the rail line, now considered a Leland landmark.
Holloman will be “laser focused on a vision of a well-managed, all inclusive, and forward-thinking strategy for growth by utilizing sound fiscal policies,” according to his press release.
With a BSBA degree in accounting from East Carolina University, Holloman worked for Burroughs Corporation in Raleigh before launching several software businesses. He has served as CEO and Present of two software companies that “designed, developed, implemented and marketed software” to local governments. The companies also crafted 911 software used by law enforcement to municipalities throughout the United States.
After living in Greenville, Holloman and his wife of 45 years moved to Wilmington in 1995. In 2014, Holloman moved to Brunswick Forest upon retiring. Together the couple share two sons, a daughter, and seven grandchildren. The family are active members of Port City Community Church.
“I am confident that my experiences over the many years, working with towns and counties throughout the United States, will bring value to our growing community,” Holloman said in the release.
