CAROLINA BEACH — A man robbed a Carolina Beach bank before he fled the area in an SUV and headed north toward Snow’s Cut Bridge with the help of a getaway driver, according to police.
At 11:29 a.m. on Tuesday morning, officers from the Carolina Beach Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a robbery taking place at First Citizen’s Bank on the ocean side of Lake Park Boulevard, between a Subway and the Surf House seafood restaurant.
The suspect entered the bank, demanded money, and committed a robbery, according to the initial police report. Police said he had concealed his identity with a face covering and glasses, and he was wearing a dark ball cap with the logo “CAT” on the front. He was also wearing a dark, long-sleeve shirt with orange letters on the front, light faded blue jeans, and gray athletic shoes while carrying a green bag.
He appeared to be a middle-aged white male, aided by an accomplice described to police as the “getaway driver.” He left the bank and entered the passenger-side door of a four-door, compact SUV.
“The vehicle fled the area in a northbound direction toward Snow Cut’s Bridge,” according to the CBPD.
Police provided a surveillance photograph of the man departing the bank, time stamped 11:27 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Police are asking for public assistance in identifying the suspect or vehicle in the photographs. Anyone with information should call the CBPD at (910) 458-2540 or call anonymously at (910) 458-1246.
