The Wilmington Police Department issued warrants for Scott’s arrest following his public admission to physically assaulting and raping wife Lauren Scott. WPD is charging Devon Scott, 37, with 2nd Degree Sexual Offense, a felony usually punishable by between 44 and 182 months in prison (with a maximum of 231 months). Those convicted must also register as sex offenders after being released.

According to WPD, Scott is being held without bond, a common practice for domestic violence cases.

According to WPD, the U.S. Marshals Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Scott around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at his residence. The Task Force is comprised of members of the U.S. Marshals, Wilmington Police Department, N.C. Department of Public Safety, and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

According to WPD, the U.S. Marshals office handles ‘crimes against persons’ warrants on WPD’s behalf in exchange for WPD participation on the task force. The U.S. Marshals also sometimes get involved when there is a flight risk.

Scott’s first appearance will be on Friday afternoon in New Hanover County court.
