New Hanover County band teacher charged with numerous felony indecent liberties with students

WILMINGTON — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s office is investigating over a decade of alleged sexually inappropriate behavior by the band teacher at Roland Grise Middle School.

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, (NHCSO) Peter Michael Frank, 47, surrendered himself on Monday evening. He is charged with 12 felonies, including six counts of indecent liberties with a child and six counts of indecent liberties with a student by a teacher. According to NHCSO, the charges stem from alleged incidents between 2003 and 2019 involving at least six victims.

After receiving a report on Monday, January 13, NHCSO deputies were dispatched to Roland Grise Middle School, where Frank is a band teacher; according to Frank’s page on the school’s website, he also offers after school tutoring.

Port City Daily has requested Frank’s employment record from the New Hanover County Schools district, as well as comment on whether Frank had been the subject of any prior allegations or investigations.

Frank is currently being held in the New Hanover County detention center on a $750,000 secured bond. His first appearance in court will be Tuesday morning. NHCSO asks anyone with information to contact authorities at 910-798-4260.
