Update: Wilmington police investigating bomb threat at downtown parking deck

Update 11:30 p.m. — According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), a bomb threat was called in Saturday evening. Late Saturday evening, the WPD sent the following release:

Around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, December 28, Wilmington police responded to a bomb threat involving the City of Wilmington 2nd Street parking deck and the New Hanover County Courthouse. The threat was called in through the 911 Center. Several blocks of downtown were closed to allow the bomb squad to conduct a thorough sweep of the area. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and several other WPD units assisted. No devices were found, and roads reopened shortly before 9:30 p.m.

Similar threats were made to downtown Apex and a restaurant in Manteo Saturday. WPD is investigating any connections.

Update 10 p.m. — The Wilmington Police Department says they have swept the area and declared it ‘all clear’ after a potential bomb threat earlier in the evening.

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a potential bomb threat at a downtown parking deck.

Details are scarce at the moment, but multiple sources are reporting a bomb threat involving the parking deck on North Second Street. Reports also indicate several businesses, including Ironclad Brewing, may have temporarily closed.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the situation is under investigation.
