Update 7:20 a.m. Saturday: Wilmington police officers responded to two separate shootings on Friday night. Two victims were sent to the hospital, one with serious injuries. Authorities have made one arrest.
Wilmington Police Department (WPD) officers responded to the first shooting at 8 p.m. where they located a badly-wounded victim near the Houston Moore Terrace housing complex at 12th and Greenfield streets. The 23-year-old victim remains in serious condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center; ER staff report the victim would have died were it not for medical aid provided by WPD officers.

Several hours after the shooting, WPD arrested a suspect several, 37-year-old Gregory Glenn Simpson, Jr., and charged him with ‘assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.’ WPD believes Simpson shot the victim during a dispute. He is currently being held at the New Hanover County Sherriff’s Office detention center on a $200,000 secured bond.
A second shooting took place around 10:30 p.m. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification at the Sam’s Food Mart at 4133 Princess Place Drive.
According to WPD, “[w]hen [officers] arrived they found the store’s front glass completely broken out and witnesses stating there had been a shooting in the parking lot. Officers were then notified by NHRMC that a victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound had been transported from Sam’s Food Mart to the emergency room by a vehicle. Police believe the shooting happened when someone in a dark-colored vehicle drove past the store and shot at the victim.
No arrest has been yet been made in the second shooting. Both shootings are under investigation, along with at least eight other incidents of gun violence that have left at least ten people wounded over the last two weeks.

According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert on Friday night around 8 p.m. When police arrived at 12th and Greenfield streets, they found a victim, identified as a male in his late 40s, bleeding from a gunshot wound.
Officers were able to provide medical aid until EMS units arrive; the victim was later taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is in serious condition.
Since Friday, November 22, there have been at least nine shootings, sending at least eight people the hospital, half of them with serious injuries. While WPD has arrested one man for returning fire, none of the shooters responsible for these injuries has been arrested.
The shootings have all taken place between Fifth Avenue and 17th Street. While several of the shootings, including one earlier this week, have been isolated domestic incidents, the majority have been gang-related, according to WPD. To date, WPD has not been able to substantially link the shootings.
