WILMINGTON — Authorities are searching for a man who approached several young girls on Tuesday and attempted to lure them into his car, offering money and saying he was “the chosen one.”

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the incident happened near the new GLOW Academy facility on Sungflow Drive just before 2 p.m.

Police describe the suspect as a medium-skinned black male with medium-length twists in his hair. The suspect is reportedly driving a black Chrysler 300 with chrome rims and darkly-tinted windows.

Based on the man’s claim of being ‘the chosen one,’ police believe he may have psychological or cognitive issues.

Police say they have increased patrols in the area, and are reminding parents “please caution your children about getting close to strangers or their cars. Don’t walk anywhere alone. Don’t take shortcuts through the woods, a back street or empty lot. And remember bad people do not always look mean or scary.”
