
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A truck carrying corrosive chemicals overturned on Highway 421 this afternoon.
The accident resulted in minor leaks of the unknown substance, according to the Wilmington Fire Department.
Both U.S. 421 and the Isabella Holmes Bridge are closed in both directions. North Carolina Hazardous Materials Regional Response Team 2 is at the site of the accident attempting to contain the leak.
Phillips Towing is assisting to bring the tractor-trailer off its side and back on its wheels, according to the Wilmington Fire Department (WFD). No injuries have been reported. The driver of the tractor-trailer climbed out of the vehicle after the accident, which occurred at approximately 3:27 p.m.
Road closures are expected to last three hours, WFD announced at 4:51 p.m.
