Two arrested for armed robbery at Monkey Junction Walmart

WILMINGTON — Two people were arrested around 8 p.m. Monday night for an alleged armed robbery at the Walmart in Monkey Junction.

According to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jerry Brewer, Edward Huffman and Audrey Cross were leaving the store when “loss prevention officers asked them to come inside and answer a couple of questions regarding shoplifting.”

At this point Huffman turned around and told the officers that he had a gun, lifting his shirt to expose the weapon.

Both parties then fled towards the nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement, where deputies who arrived on the scene located and arrested Cross. She was taken into custody, charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, and received a $20,000 secured bond.

Huffman was located later in the Carolina Beach State Park where he was arrested and also charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to Brewer. He received a $35,000 secure bond.
