Update: bank robbery suspect possibly the same man wanted by Brunswick County for Wednesday night robbery

Update 12:05 p.m.: Wilmington Police are investigating whether the suspect shown in security camera footage is the same man wanted by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office for a Wednesday night robbery. 

According to a Facebook post by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect is Elijah Mahammad Mcfarland, 25, of Sunny Brook Way in Leland. 

“Incident occurred at around10 p.m. on 02/13/19 at the Circle K convenient store located at 7806 Ocean Hwy E, in Leland. Subject entered the store, told the clerk he had a gun in his pocket and demanded money. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash,” according to the post.


WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is responding to a robbery at a Wells Fargo bank on College Road.

The robbery occurred at the Wells Fargo bank at 590 South College Road, around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

“The robber gave the teller a note saying it was a robbery, the teller complied and gave the robber an unspecified amount of money. No weapon was displayed but it was implied he had a weapon. The call came in at 10:28 a.m. when someone from the bank called 911,” according to Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Dandron.

The suspect is described as a black male, 25 years old, 5 foot 4 inches tall and 130 pounds. He was wearing a baseball hat with a flat brim, a red puffy jacket, dark blue jeans, tan boots.
