Plunge into the new year, here’s where to take an icy dip in 2019

Kickstart 2019 by taking a cold dip into the Atlantic Ocean.

SOUTHEASTERN, N.C. — Plunge for a purpose, freeze for a reason or kick off the morning-after fog this New Year’s Day.

If you’re looking for an excuse to get a jump start on 2019, there are several polar plunges panned around the Cape Fear region.

Wrightsville Plunge

The 4th annual Wrightsville Plunge benefits Communities in Schools, an area non-profit dedicated to helping at-risk public school students succeed.

The family-friendly event costs $25 for adults and $10 for children under-12 to participate.

Participants will plunge into the Atlantic Ocean next to Crystal Pier in Wrightsville Beach at noon on Jan. 1.

Event festivities begin at 10:30 a.m., with live music and beer available at the after-plunge party at the South End Surf Shop.

Registration for the Wrightsville Plunge is open online.

Surf City’s Dolphin Dip

Wash this year away on New Year’s Day in Surf City. The Dolphin Dip, an event that attracts thousands every year, will host its 17th annual event on Jan. 1.

The free event kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Roland Avenue Beach Access in Surf City. Proceeds from the event benefit Share The Table, a faith-based food pantry program.

The Dolphin Dip will have t-shirts available and a costume contest for those who dip in style. The event’s horn is set to sound off at noon. More information on the Dolphin Dip can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
